【ハワイ日米協会との交流イベント開催】Japan Wizards Competition Winnning Team vist Tokyo Tama area!!
Nichibeikyokai2023年6月5日、The 20th Annual Japan Wizards Competitionの優勝チームであるKalani High Schoolの生徒さん3名と先生をお招きし、東京多摩地域の自然、文化、食事などを体験していただきました。
Japan Wizards Competition とは、ハワイ日米協会（Japan-America Society of Hawaii, JASH）が主催する高校生のための大会であり、日本に興味があるハワイの高校生たちが、日本の芸術、文化、伝統、食べ物、地理、歴史、日米（ハワイ）関係、文学、政治、スポーツ等、様々なトピックに関しての知識を競います。
毎年十数の高校生60-80名ほどが参加する大規模な大会であり、ハワイアン航空等の協賛により、優勝校には、学んだことを実体験する日本旅行がプレゼントされます。
日本側では我々東京多摩日米協会を始めとして、愛媛県国際センター、国際基督教大学、長岡市国際交流協会、テンプル大学、東海大学、在福岡米国総領事館などがパートナーとなっています。
本日は、我々東京多摩日米協会が、東京農工大学とも協力し多摩地域をご案内いたしました。
東京八王子市にある高尾山・うかい鳥山を訪問し、以下の体験をしていただきました。
・高尾山の自然を体感
・高尾登山電鉄㈱の日本一急こう配のケーブルカー体験
・高尾山さる園でのかわいい日本猿とのふれあい
・高尾山薬王院本堂での英語での日本宗教や薬王院の歴史の学び、御護摩修行
・うかい鳥山での日本の食文化の体感
高尾登山電鉄㈱の皆様、高尾山薬王院の皆様、うかい鳥山の皆様の歓迎のお心遣いが溢れる体験をしていただきました。皆様、ご協力いただき誠にありがとうございました。

On June 5, 2023, we invited three students and their teacher from Kalani High School, the winning team of The 20th Annual Japan Wizards Competition, to experience the nature, culture, and food of the Tama area of Tokyo.
The Japan Wizards Competition is a competition for high school students organized by the Japan-America Society of Hawaii (JASH) in which Hawaii high school students interested in Japan compete on their knowledge of Japanese arts, culture, traditions, food, geography, history, Japan-US (Hawaii) relations, literature, politics, sports and many other topics.
This is a large competition with about 60-80 high school students from a dozen schools participating each year, and the winning school receives a trip to Japan to experience firsthand what they have learned, thanks to sponsorship from Hawaiian Airlines and others.
On the Japanese side, our partners include the Japan-America Society of Tama, Tokyo, Ehime International Center, International Christian University, Nagaoka International Association, Temple University, Tokai University, and the U.S. Consulate General in Fukuoka.
Today, we, the Japan-America Society of Tama, in cooperation with the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, offered a guided tour of the Tama area.
They visited Mt. Takao and UKAI TORIYAMA in Hachioji City, Tokyo, to experience the following
・Experience the natural beauty of Mt. Takao
・Experience Japan's steepest cable car by Takaotozan Dentetsu Co.
・Interacting with cute Japanese monkeys at Takao Monkey Park
・Learning about Japanese religion and Yakuoin history in English at the main hall of Yakuoin Temple and Experience of "Goma"
・Experience Japanese food culture at UKAI TORIYAMA
The experience was overflowing with the welcoming hospitality of the people of Takaotozan Dentetsu Co., Yakuoin temple, UKAI TORIYAMA. Thank you all very much for your cooperation.
